I have lived in this area for most of my life and have a profound love of its natural beauty. I see my surroundings with fresh eyes when I am painting. It is then that I take the time to stop and absorb the light, the quiet, the shapes, and colors of our land and sea. I see a swash of brilliant color, a sensuous curve from the water’s flow, the mystery of the distant horizon, the vibrant contrast of color, and the rhythm of shapes that become my paintings. My interest is not a literal depiction of a landscape, but the recording of this heightened sensibility and emotional connection. Diane Bowie Zaitlin

Diane Bowie Zaitlin attended Skidmore College and received her B.F.A. from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut. She has exhibited extensively, including solo exhibits at Saco Museum, Saco, Maine; University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn.; Davidson and Daughters Contemporary Art, Portland, Maine; University of New England, Biddeford, Maine; St. Joseph’s College, North Windham; the State House, Augusta, Maine.

Diane has participated in numerous group exhibitions including recent shows at Barn Gallery, Ogunquit, Maine; Leighton Gallery, Blue Hill, Maine; George Marshall Store Gallery, York, Maine; Elan Fine Arts in Rockland, Maine; The Gallery on Chase Hill, Kennebunkport, Maine; Greenhut Gallery and Whitney Art Works, in Portland, Maine. She has exhibited throughout New England, as well as Portland, Oregon, New Hope, Pennsylvania, and Debuque, Iowa.

Commissions include a percent for art award at Greely Middle School, Cumberland, Maine; murals and decorative painting at C.S.I. in Biddeford and Springvale, Maine; Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, and numerous private homes.
